About Mike

Senator Mike Romano was born and raised in Harrison County the son of a local businessman and a public school teacher.  From his parents, Mike learned to enjoy hard work and helping others. Mike understands the importance of a strong public school system having graduated from Harrison County Public Schools, then WVU with an accounting degree followed by the WVU College of Law. Mike also earned a Certified Public Accountant designation. Mike has worked as a public accountant/auditor, an officer with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission’s Division of Enforcement, and as an attorney representing people and small businesses throughout West Virginia.

Job creation and economic development have been among Mike’s top priorities co-founding the Harrison County Economic Development Corporation, the North Central West Virginia Trade Development Association, and the Downtown Revitalization Committee promoting good paying jobs throughout the State.  Putting community first, Mike served on the Board and Grants Committees for the Harrison County United Way and is a former Commissioner with the Harrison County Parks and Recreation Commission for nearly a decade. He is the former president of the Harrison County Bar Association, the Harrison County Economic Development Authority and the West Virginia Association for Justice and served as the Treasurer of the West Virginia State Democratic Party.  Mike also served his community as Harrison County Commissioner where he rooted out corruption and government inefficiency and was part of the team that lowered the County tax levy rate four years in a row. 

As first-term State Senator, Mike put working West Virginians first. He has fought to improve wages of all working people including our school teachers and public employees. He advocates for smart government, common sense deregulation, and the end of corporate welfare. He has fought to protect property rights of West Virginians and its farmers from big out-of-state corporations and reducing taxes on our Senior Citizens.  He has sponsored bills supporting our active military and Veterans, the aerospace industry, workers’ safety, among many others.  Mike has worked for all of the counties in his District obtaining emergency funding for community buildings and roads, assisting with flood relief, and aiding schools.  Mike believes that a person’s word and integrity are the most important assets anyone can claim.
